Andrew, Jules and Blake (from Paddy’s Whiskers) together with long term friend and musical collaborator Sorrel, were lucky enough to be invited to play a ceilidh for an amazing group of people in the mountains of Southern Spain on Boxing Day 2017….we had a great team of callers for the day – thanks to Bates, Lesley, and Huw…..We’ll be back in the region soon so if you would like to book a ceilidh, barn dance or kicking band playing upbeat contemporary Irish, Celtic and American folk music – for your wedding, party, bar or festival – give us a ring on 0044 (0)7514064558 or email email@example.com
Andrew and Jules from Paddy’s Whiskers were recently invited to play music for a BBC1 TV series at Powderham Castle, Devon….blink and you’ll miss us but here we are playing for the party at the end of the recent Mary Berry series (scroll to 56:20 to see us in action): Paddy’s Whiskers on BBC1
A couple of weeks ago we played for James and Katherine, at The Barn in South Milton, Devon. It was a beautiful evening – above is a photo from their stunning first dance. James left us some lovely feedback on Facebook:
“Thank you so much guys. We had such an amazing night and all our friends and family had so much fun dancing to your music. Can we do it all again please ??”
Lovely feedback from a recent wedding gig we played for Emily and Jason:
Just to say a huge huge thank you for playing at our wedding, you were a HUGE hit!!
The evening was brilliant and we loved the music.”
Thank you both for asking us to be part of your wedding celebration.
So…our New Year’s Eve Hootenanny gig at The Boathouse, Paignton sold out months in advance. We had a great crowd of friends and fans old and new, to celebrate the start of 2017…and we are booked for NYE 2018…it’s not too early to reserve tickets!
We’ve had a scattering of ceilidhs and barn dances over the winter months, including a lovely gig for Kerry and James at Muddifords Court, Cullompton.
And then last Friday we had the madness that is St.Patrick’s Day. In the morning we played live on BBC Radio Devon. You can see a video here
4.8 thousand hits and rising…..
We’d have dressed up if we knew he was gonna bring a camera! That’s our boy Blake on whistle.
In the evening..our fifth year celebrating at The Snooty Fox…playing all our favourite Irish jigs and reels, songs and tunes. What a night. The venue was rammed! The crowd rocked!
And so now the season really starts. Paddy’s Whiskers are fully booked until the autumn – playing gigs, ceilidhs, barn dances, festivals, weddings and parties across Devon, Cornwall and the South West. We are next at The Boathouse, Paignton on April 23rd…a family friendly afternoon gig….Check out our “Gigs” page for a full listing.
We are particularly looking forward to returning to OffGrid Festival in Exeter on August 10th…we’ll be launching the party with a massive ceilidh, and then running fiddle and whistle workshops throughout the weekend. Check out this year’s promo video for the event featuring the tune “The Lark In The Morning” by Paddy’s Whiskers:
We had a fantastic time playing music and running fiddle and whistle workshops at Off Grid Festival 2016 and at DadFest. We’ll be back at both in 2017. Meanwhile we are delighted that Off Grid chose to use Paddy’s Whiskers music (and some footage from our festival ceilidh) in their new promo film:
At the end of July, Paddy’s Whiskers were lucky enough to be asked to play a wedding ceilidh or barn dance for Andy and Naomi in a beautiful marquee in the picturesque village of Noss Mayo, Devon.
Andy was kind enough to email us with a few words for our website:
“Thank you so much for helping us celebrate our wedding in Noss Mayo, Devon on 30th July 2016. You were all incredible and made our special day end on such a high. Every song got people on their feet and the village was filled with the sound of Paddy’s Whiskers. Thanks!”
Thank you both so much – we rather like the idea of the village being filled with the sound of Paddy’s Whiskers!
A couple of weeks ago Paddy’s Whiskers were lucky enough to be asked to play for Tom and Erica’s wedding celebration at The Mill End Hotel near Chagford.
In the afternoon, Andrew and Jules played a selection of acoustic music for the wedding ceremony and reception in the beautiful gardens.
We have some great tunes that we play on fiddle, mandolin and guitar whilst guests assemble…and a lovely jig called “Haste to the Wedding” that is perfect as the bride walks up the aisle. Then we played a mellow set of sparkly tunes as the bride and groom signed the register, followed by an hour or so more of music for the drinks reception. Of all the gigs we get, playing acoustic music for ceremonies has to be one of our very favourite…the atmosphere is always so lovely and we feel privileged to be part of such an important moment.
In the evening it was full power barn dance time, Marcus (percussion, guitar, vocals, songwriting) and Ali (our brilliant caller) arrived in plenty of time to set up the band equipment indoors…and although the space at we played in was “compact”, the crowd were tremendous and the party rocked.
We received a lovely email from Erica after the day….
I just wanted to say a big thank you to you and everyone else in the band for playing at our wedding last Saturday. Everyone commented on how much they liked it! The acoustic music out in the garden was absolutely beautiful and the dancing in the evening was great fun!
My dad was over the moon to hear ‘whiskey in the jar’ I don’t think I have EVER seen my mum and dad dancing, so that was a first for me!
You were all amazing and the caller did a fab job getting people to dance in that hot, tiny space!
Many thanks again, and I really hope I get the chance to see you playing again somewhere soon 🙂
Many thanks Erica and Tom, for your kind words and for choosing us to play for you – it really was an exceptional day.
Below are some more photos of Paddy’s Whiskers from the day. All the amazing pictures on this post were taken by Harry And Tanya Photography. Their blog on Erica and Tom’s wedding is here, with some lovely pictures of the bride, groom and guests. Harry and Tanya’s Facebook page is here. Thanks for sending us these pictures guys…it was great to meet you.
Back in December we played a birthday Ceilidh for Liz, up in Winkleigh, Devon. Liz had seen Paddy’s Whiskers play before and was kind enough to choose a date for her party when she was sure we could make it.
She sent us some lovely feedback after the gig:
“Hi Andrew and Julia and the band
Thank you so much for a fantastic time on Saturday. EVERYONE has said what a great band you are and not forgetting the energetic, patient and lovely caller.
We had a brilliant evening and everyone is aching except me, I’m just still smiling!
Once again many thanks.
Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring good things for you.
